A man has been jailed for trafficking heroin after running out of chances to complete a community corrections order.

Vu Nguyen, 44, appeared in the Dandenong Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday where he pleaded guilty to trafficking heroin.

Nguyen sold .37g of heroin to an undercover police officer in August for $50.

The undercover officer approached Nguyen in a Richmond laneway and asked to buy the drug from him to which Nguyen responded by going to an apartment and reappearing a short time later with the drug in tin foil.

He was arrested shortly after the deal took place on Victoria St, where he wasn’t allowed to be as a part of his bail conditions.

In June 2022 Nguyen was searched by police after he was seen acting suspiciously on Elizabeth St in Richmond.

He was seen trying to hide something in his pants and when police searched him they found a small zip lock bag of heroin.

The court heard Nguyen, who previously worked on vegetable farms and in factories, had a long history of heroin addiction.

He was on a corrections order for other offending when he appeared in court on Tuesday.

The court heard he had also been given a chance on many court orders before.

The current order was cancelled and Nguyen was sentenced to 61 days’ jail.

For the other offences Nguyen was sentenced to 80 days in jail with conviction.
