In a fit of rage, a man attacked a guest in a Dandenong hotel lobby before he smashed the television in his room.
Dult Ebela appeared in Dandenong Magistrates Court on Thursday pleading guilty to charges of assault and property damage.
Ebela was staying at the IBIS hotel in Dandenong in August 2021 when he left his room and went to reception.
In an unprovoked attack he punched another person five times.
In an effort to escape the repeated, vicious attacks, the victim fled into the kitchen, locked the door behind them and called the police.
Mr Ebela told the court he went for a walk around the block to try and calm himself but when he got back he was still “very angry” so he punched the TV.
The court heard Ebela told police he left his hotel room “thinking very bad things” and was “very angry”.
The court also heard Ebela was suffering a psychotic break and hadn’t been receiving the appropriate level of treatment.
Since the assault last year, Ebela has been hospitalised and receiving intense care through an inpatient treatment setting.
He was released on a good behaviour bond under the advisement he continue to engage with treatment.
