Dandenong drug dealers: Meth labs, crop houses on the rise in Dandenong

The Dob in a Dealer campaign has been relaunched after it was revealed clandestine meth labs, marijuana crop houses and other illegal drug manufacturing operations have been on the rise.

The surprising history of meth

Clandestine meth labs, marijuana crop houses and other illegal drug manufacturing operations are on the rise in Dandenong, the city’s top cop has revealed.

Acting Inspector Graeme Stanley said drug manufacturing, drug dealing and drug use had been increasing over the past ten years.

Inspector Stanley said smashing drug manufacturers was crucial to interrupting the distribution of drugs across the region.

Speaking at the Dandenong launch of Crime Stoppers’ long-running Dob in a Dealer campaign, he said catching drug manufacturers would have a positive ripple effect across the community.

“This is an area we want to address so we can interrupt the supply of drugs,” he said.

“The ease of access to illegal drugs is a problem.

“Across the spectrum, the manufacture, dealing and using of drugs are all as important.”

Inspector Stanley said police had no information to support reported links between outlaw motorcycle gangs and illegal drug manufacturing.

“But it’s not to say it isn’t occurring in the area,” he said.

He ruled out a correlation between Dandenong’s large industrial zones and clandestine meth labs.

Inspector Stanley threw his support behind the renewed Dob in a Dealer push.

“The Greater Dandenong community and Victoria Police can work together to stem the import, manufacture and supply of illicit drugs,” he said.

“Your small piece of information could be the missing piece of the puzzle.”

The Dob in a Dealer campaign is a nationwide program aimed at stopping the supply chain of illicit drugs including ice, cocaine, MDMA, heroin and cannabis.

Crime Stoppers Victoria CEO Erika Owens said public support was crucial.

“Criminal drug related activity is not only costing millions of dollars in healthcare and law enforcement, but it is tragically and unnecessarily costing human lives,” Ms Owens said.
