A Cranbourne man accused of saying he would smash his ex-girlfriend’s head into the ground before allegedly attacking her pet dog has been remanded into custody again.
Jayson Weegink will be forced to spend another two weeks behind bars over charges he assaulted and said threatened to kill his former partner.
Police say he then threw the woman’s dog around in a violent rage at her Narre Warren home in July.
The unemployed 27-year-old faced Dandenong Magistrates’ Court again on Wednesday after his bid for bail was knocked back on August 6.
The court previously heard Mr Weegink, who has an ice addiction, is alleged to have threatened to kill his former partner by smashing her head on the ground “until it cracks”.
He allegedly punched her in the face and is then accused of picking up her dog and throwing it around the room, saying he was going to stab the animal with a knife.
When the woman tried to rescue her dog he allegedly choked her for 20 seconds until she managed to escape and alert a neighbour.
He was arrested a few days later at his parent’s Cranbourne North home.
Mr Weegink’s defence lawyer told the court he is contesting some of the charges and they are still waiting on police material.
She said records of the interview, medical records of the alleged victim and transcripts of 000 calls that were said to have been made had still not yet been made available to the defence.
Magistrate Greg Connellan said the prosecution needed more time to provide the required information and remanded Mr Weegink to face court again on September 3.
