Two people who allegedly shot a woman while on bail after taking her backpack and attempting to steal her car in Melbourne’s southeast have faced court.
Devontae Ulutui and Claudia Ulutui, from the Cranbourne region, were arrested and charged on Wednesday following a police search in Mount Waverley.
Police allege on March 16 about 4am, the duo approached a woman in a vehicle on Hallam Rd, Hampton Park before there was an altercation over demands for money.
A bullet was then allegedly fired, which hit the 39-year-old woman in the arm.
She later self-presented to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
According to court documents, obtained by the Herald Sun, the pair allegedly robbed the woman of a backpack with unknown contents of an unknown amount while armed.
The 21-year-old Clyde North woman allegedly used an unregistered firearm during the incident.
The 25-year-old Cranbourne East man was allegedly subject to a firearm prohibition order (FPO).
Both were allegedly on bail at the time.
The relationship between the pair is unknown.
On Wednesday, Mr Ulutui was further charged after police allegedly located him in possession of methylamphetamine at Mount Waverley.
Following their arrest about midday, they were remanded to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court.
Mr Ulutui’s lawyer Joseph Adamou appeared on his behalf on Thursday morning but Ms Ulutui appeared in person, from the dock, later that afternoon.
Magistrate Andrew McKenna, who presided over Mr Ulutui’s matter, ordered the prosecution to provide a full hand-up brief by May 8 and adjourned the matter for a committal case conference on June 19, the same day for both defendants.
Magistrate Anne Goldsbrough heard from Ms Ulutui’s lawyer, Ms O’Gorman, that she allegedly sustained an injury during her arrest and wanted to see a custody nurse.
Ms O’Gorman said her client had not been taking her medication for mental health issues, including anxiety and depression.
Neither made applications for bail and they were remanded to appear before the court in June.
