Police are investigating whether there are any links between a man found dead in Melbourne’s outer east and the shooting of a Cranbourne father earlier the same day.
Police attended a white vehicle on Mount Ararat Rd in Nar Nar Goon on Monday afternoon, after a passer-by spotted the deceased man inside.
The discovery came just hours after Cranbourne East father Victor Valla was shot outside his home after his daughter thought a man was following her.
The shooter remained on the run on Monday night, with police saying the attack appeared random and the parties did not appear to be known to each other.
The Nar Nar Goon man’s death has been deemed not suspicious, however police are looking into possible links between the two incidents.
Respected IT worker Mr Valla remains in a critical but stable condition in The Alfred after he was shot in the stomach.
The victim’s ex-wife Cecilia Valla told the Herald Sun her 21-year-old daughter Blessing noticed somebody following her about 12.30am on Monday, as she returned from getting fast food.
“She saw a man following her in a car from a few streets away,” Ms Valla said.
“She decided to do another round of the block and called her dad.”
Her father then confronted the man before they got into a scuffle.
“They started pushing each other and then the person shot him,” she said.
Ms Valla said her ex-husband was conscious when ambulance officers arrived.
“He’s been sedated now, but he was awake when they got here,” she said.
“I feel so sorry for my daughter … it’s horrible.”
She urged the shooter to hand themselves in to police.
“I don’t know what is happening here in Melbourne at the moment,” Ms Valla said.
“They must have been drug affected or something I don’t know.”
“Whoever it was they should hand themselves in.”
Detective Inspector Mick Daly said the motive behind the attack was unknown.
Police confirmed the shooter was driving a white station wagon which he is believed to have driven away from the scene in.
“We urge anyone with information or CCTV footage to contact Crimestoppers,” he said.
Investigators also urged anyone who was driving in the Cranbourne area and might have spotted the car to come forward.”
An elderly neighbour said she was woken up by police lights at 4am.
“I didn’t realise what was happening,” she said.
“I looked out my window and saw the police lights going off and I thought my grand daughter’s car had been broken into.”
The neighbour described the victim as a “nice, nice man” and said she was worried about him after the shooting.
In a separate incident, a 35-year-old Clyde North man was approached by two women outside shops along Lurline St in Cranbourne just before 10pm on Sunday.
The pair allegedly stabbed the man, stole his car and fled towards Pakenham, where they were arrested by officers a short time later.
Paramedics rushed the man to hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Officers were told the pair had allegedly tried to carjack a woman along Sladen St about 9.40pm prior to the attack.
A Victoria Police spokeswoman said police were speaking to a 33-year-old Mornington woman and a 28-year-old Carrum Downs woman about the incidents.
Police found the man’s car at the intersection of Ballarto Rd and Healesville Koo-Wee Rup Rd at about 10pm.
One of the women was arrested outside a convenience store, and the other, outside a home nearby where the car was found.
The pair are being interviewed by police.
