Somerville Highway Patrol could be forgiven for calling for popcorn after discovering a couple re-enacting a classic scene from the film Titanic.

The man and woman were spotted standing on top of their car at a scenic lookout at Arthurs Seat on Monday.

When they went for a closer look officers found a 25-year-old Lancefield man and a 24-year-old Seaford woman re-creating the pose made famous by Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio in the 1997 movie.

But instead of clinging to Leo while perched atop the ship’s bow the Seaford woman aka Kate was clutching her Lancefield love on the roof of a silver sedan.

Any romantic intentions by the pair were sunk when officer discovered that the vehicle they were in had cancelled registration, the wrong number plates were affixed, and the male driver didn’t have a licence.

The car was impounded for 30 days and the driver will receive a summons to face court.

The man and woman were also found to be in breach of the 5km from home directive issued by the Chief Health Officer under the State of Emergency and were slapped with $1652 penalty notices.
