Catani bumpkin Jack Lee charged with trafficking MDMA, selling guns and importing drug ‘Molly’

An accused gun-running country bumpkin is allegedly behind a massive racket to sell ecstasy and import deadly designer drugs.

A man from a Victorian town with fewer than 300 people has been accused of being the kingpin behind an alleged deadly designer drug importation racket.

Jack Lee, 25, fronted Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Friday charged with more than 60 offences including trafficking a commercial quantity of MDMA.

Mr Lee who was also charged with importing and attempting to traffick a commercial quantity of MDPV – a deadly substance known on the street as ‘monkey dust’

Lee, who also charged with possessing a tablet press, was slapped with a charge of attempting to traffick a large commercial quantity of N, N-Dimethylpentylone.

N, N-Dimethylpentylone is a deadly new designer drug causing headaches to authorities worldwide and is sometimes sold under the street names ‘Crystal’ or ‘Molly’.

Mr Lee also allegedly attempted to import a large commercial quantity of N, N-Dimethylpentylone.

Mr Lee’s accused criminality allegedly occurred in various parts of Victoria including at his hometown Catani between March 2021 and June 5 last year.

Catani, a rural area of Cardinia in Victoria’s southeast, had a population of just 297 according to the last census.

Mr Lee was also slapped with various firearm charges.

Police alleged Mr Lee possessed a trafficable quantity of firearms, attempted to possess a gun silencer and advertised and sold a gun without authorisation.

It’s also alleged Mr Lee possessed an unregistered gun, an imitation firearm, an extendable baton, a taser, a slingshot and ammunition.

Mr Lee, who was also charged with attempting to cultivate cannabis, also allegedly supplied guns and ammunition and sold sling shots.

Authorities also accused Lee of dealing with “unauthorised explosives” and acquiring or disposing of more than three unregistered firearms within a 12-month period.

Mr Lee, who laughed and gawked at the screen while he appeared via videolink from his lawyer’s office, was also charged with using a firearm in a “dangerous manner”.

Mr Lee had his bail extended to front court at a later date.
