A permanent memorial for slain tradie Cam Smith is set to be built in Seaford.

A plaque and bench seat in tribute of the beloved 26-year-old, who was allegedly stabbed to death near Seaford train station in November, will be installed on Station St.

The bench seat — donated by the fallen carpenter’s family — will be created by his former colleagues and boss Toby Kennedy.

Labor MP Sonya Kilkenny is set to fund the plaque, with Frankston Council managing retaining wall modifications to enable the installation.

The tribute follows a request from Mr Smith’s heartbroken father Michael, who wanted to create a permanent memorial for his son.

“ (Mr Smith) wanted somewhere to sit and reflect on a young life cut short and the preciousness of life,” Ms Kilkenny said.

It’s believed Mr Smith was walking home with girlfriend Natasha Stroumos after getting pizza on November 25 when they became involved in a verbal altercation with another group near Seaford train station.

Police allege Somers woman Scarlett Taylor, 21, unlawfully assaulted Ms Stroumos before 19-year-old Jack Ledlin — who was believed to be in a relationship with Taylor at the time — fatally stabbed Mr Smith in the heart with a glass bottle.

Frankston 18-year-old Liam Casley allegedly kicked Mr Smith as he lay dying, the Frankston Magistrates’ Court heard.

Frankston Mayor Kris Bolam said council was dedicated to working with agencies including Public Transport Victoria and Victoria Police to address anti-social behaviour.

A total of 31 CCTV cameras were installed across the Frankston region in time for summer, with more set to be added in areas including Seaford foreshore.

“Our community was distressed and saddened by the death of Mr Smith following an

incident in Seaford,” Mr Bolam said.

“We understand there is more to be done and will continue to introduce further safety

measures in collaboration with the police and the community.”
