A vicious thug who threw his girlfriend into an oven door and then held her down by her throat on a floor full of shattered glass has been jailed for a year.

But with time served Korey Joel Connor could be out on parole in six weeks.

Connor, also known as Korie Joel Musruck, pleaded guilty to assaults, criminal damage, theft and driving charges at Frankston Magistrates’ Court last Friday.

The court heard Connor and the woman were at her Frankston house at around 8.15pm on January 17 this year when she went to the fridge to get a snack.

She saw four cans of alcohol there which belonged to Connor, but she didn’t allow booze in the house because of his drinking and drug problems.

She asked him to leave twice but he refused, became aggressive and pushed her into a hallway cupboard door.

Her then grabbed her by the throat, dragged her to the kitchen, threw her into the oven, smashing the glass door, and she fell onto the floor.

He then sat on top of her, forcing her back into the shards of glass, with a hand around her neck and a knee in her chest.

She was unable to breathe until he momentarily let go and she managed to scream for help.

Connor then got up, went to the fridge to collect his alcohol, stole her car and drove off.

She suffered severe redness around her throat, cuts her back, arm and leg, a bruised shoulder and a broken toe.

He handed himself in to police the next day and was remanded in custody.

Read out in court by the police prosecutor because she had fled intestate, the victim’s impact statement described her ongoing physical and mental pain.

The woman said she thought she was going to die.

She said she was too scared to tell her family where she is living in case he finds out.

This was the second time he had cruelly attacked her.

Seven months before he had forced his fingers into her mouth and punched her four times in the face.

“I’m too scared to leave my house, I’m petrified he will come after me when he gets out,” she said.

“I feel I was preyed upon, I believe if I hadn’t have got free in that moment he would have killed me.”

His defence lawyer said Connor had a traumatic upbringing, suffered from autism and Asperger’s, and had PTSD from being assaulted 18 months ago.

She said he “was unable to manage his emotions” in high stress situations, and would benefit from a community corrections order.

Magistrate Charles Tan said the assaults were very, very serious.

“There is no denying the impact of the victim’s statement, her enduring psychological and physical pain,” Mr Tan said.

Connor was jailed for 12 months with a non-parole period of six months, fined $500 and suspended from driving for three months.

With the 133 days he has already served on remand he will be eligible for parole in about six weeks.
