Moorabbin’s old Phillip Morris cigarette factory has been given a breath of fresh air with a brewery pub and cafes set to move in as the area’s $100 million redevelopment takes shape.

And the eight-building, 6ha Morris Moor precinct on Cochranes Rd is expected to employ at least 1600 workers when it hits completion by 2022.

Construction for Collingwood boutique brewpub Stomping Ground Brewing Co’s new watering hole is set to commence in the next three months, with the brewery to feature next to other food, drinks and lifestyle tenants as part of a seven-day hospitality hub.

Yoga studio The Light Practice is ready to open once coronavirus lockdown laws are lifted, with 120-space childcare centre the Kid’s Club set to be unveiled by end of year.

Dog-friendly food and wares market Good Commons — which can host up to 14 food trucks and 66 artisan and produce stalls featuring makers, artisans and producers — opened in November.

The Morris Moor masterplan features a colourful mix of start-ups, technology, design, food and fitness focused companies, with 90 per cent of the development already snapped up according to Melbourne real estate investment and development group Up Property.

Just under 600 staff already work in the industrial zone’s huge office spaces.

New tenants in the old manufacturing building-turned corner office includes Channel 9’s The Block furniture supplier Satara Australia and leading automotive software company Infomedia Ltd.

The Satara office will include a giant warehousing and distribution factory as well as a showroom and office.

“We were looking for a larger location for our current Braeside showroom and Morris Moor

really fit the bill as it was not too far from home, was closer to the city for many of our clients and also was located in an area that is full of other interior design related businesses,” owner and Bayside resident Andrew Johnston told the Leader.

Up Property managing director Adam Davidson said tenants were continuing to search for unique leasing opportunities at Morris Moor despite the coronavirus outbreak.

“Morris Moor will provide tenants and their staff with a well connected, diverse location that features an array of amenities typically not found in the surrounding industrial area,” he said.

“Despite the obvious challenges coronavirus created, we are excited to have a number of deals

in the pipeline and have found inquiries coming through are extremely genuine from

potential tenants who are searching for unique opportunities like Morris Moor.

“We look forward to announcing these soon and welcoming even more like-minded businesses to become part of the Morris Moor community.”
