Police are confident they will find the body of missing Doveton man Brendon Farrell as they continue their search in Cranbourne on Tuesday afternoon.
“The fact we are here is significant,” detective Inspector Andrew Stamper said.
Insp Stamper told the media shortly after 1pm that “information received” has led police to the area off Cemetery Rd.
Insp Stamper said the combined search and rescue and public order response team were searching approximately 20ha of bushland, which included an old racecourse and rubbish tip.
Police are using a drone to help them in their search in the rugged area of bushland.
He said Mr Farrell, 32, who was last seen on May 31 at an address in Kidd Rd, Doveton, was mixing with people “from the wrong side of the tracks”.
He lived in a bungalow at the rear of the address.
Insp Stamper said there was “certainly evidence of what I’m calling a violent altercation” at the Kidd Rd address that night.
“The people that frequent that address would not feel inclined to come forward (with information).”
He said Mr Farrell had no medical conditions and had not disappeared before.
Checks of Mr Farrell’s bank accounts and phone have not revealed any activity after May 31.
He also had no access to a vehicle and preferred to ride a bicycle to get around, however his bicycle is yet to be located.
Mr Farrell is 168cm with a slim to medium build and shaved reddish hair.
It’s believed he was wearing a black tracksuit at the time he was last seen.
Anyone with information about Mr Farrell’s disappearance is urged to phone Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
