A Frankston South concreter has been told to “grow up” after falling into the wrong crowd that left him committing a string of offences across the southeastern suburbs.

Ben Lamond, 22, pleaded guilty in Dandenong Magistrates’ Court on March 27, to two charges of driving while suspended, one charge of dealing with proceeds of crime, and one speeding charge.

Supported in court by his mum and girlfriend, Lamond was dressed in all black and held his two-month-old daughter.

The court heard Lamond and his co-accused were at Southland Shopping Centre on April 24 last year, travelling in a stolen Honda CRV.

The pair found another Honda CRV and swapped out the plates – leaving the victim’s car with false registration.

Lamond was arrested on July 5 where he gave a no comment interview.

Just 11 days after his arrest, Lamond was seen by police in a silver Ford Falcon on the Princes Hwy in Dandenong.

Officers pulled him over, where they discovered his licence was suspended.

Lamond fronted the Dandenong Magistrates’ Court on March 27, supported by his mother, girlfriend and baby.

The court heard he also had no P-plates displayed – a requirement of all probationary drivers.

He told police he’d been going from “his girlfriend’s house to Vinny’s”.

Lamond’s car was impounded on the spot and he denied knowing he was suspended.

On October 12 in 2023, police clocked Lamond speeding on the Dingley Bypass, travelling at 101 km/h in an 80 km/h zone.

The court heard Lamond was again, driving unlicensed without P-plates visible on the car.

In court on Wednesday, Lamond said he’s been working hard to turn his life around.

Lamond told the court he’d “fallen into the wrong crowd” after a serious accident left him reliant on pain medication.

“I was in a serious accident when I was 17,” he said.

“I’ve made wrong decisions, I’m trying to make better ones now.”

Magistrate Steven Raleigh told Lamond it was “time to grow up”.

“Slow down, behaviour yourself,” he said.

“You’ve done this twice before. If you do this again, you may get a jail term.”

Mr Raleigh sentenced Lamond to be off the road for four months with conviction.
