A young mechanic has been told he has the “worst driving record” a magistrate has ever seen after he was caught drug driving multiple times.

A young mechanic has narrowly avoided jail after he drove without a licence for the 11th time with drugs in his system.

Magistrate John O’Callaghan told Andrew Pierson, 29, he had the “worst driving record” he had ever seen and was ready to send the serial road pest to the slammer.

Pierson pleaded guilty to a string of driving charges including driving without a licence and driving with meth in his system.

Throughout this year and last, Pierson was picked up for driving without a licence eleven times from Traralgon to the southeastern suburbs.

On multiple occasions the 29-year-old was also detected driving with meth in his system.

Ms Hamilton, for defence, told the court Pierson was in the “best place he has ever been” and was “scared” of going backwards.

She submitted Pierson had only been driving as he was homeless and sleeping between friends’ houses and in his car.

She continued to say Pierson now had stable rental accommodation, a solid job and was working on relationships with his three children.

Mr O’Callaghan told Pierson he was “smashing all sorts of records”, having come before the court for driving without a licence numerous times before over the years.

He told Pierson he was ready to send him to jail but he would give him one final chance to make the best of his current situation.

“I see you at a turning point, things seem to be changing for you,” he said.

“I have judged you as worthy of a further chance.”

Pierson was placed on a 12 month good behaviour bond and ordered to pay $3000 to the court fund.

He will also have his licence suspended for another two years.

However, Mr O’Callaghan said there were “no excuses” for breaching the bond and if Pierson was picked up again he would be going to jail.

“I promise you as sure as night follows day you will come back before me and you will be given jail,” he said.

“Do not screw it up.”

Pierson told the court he was “not going to ruin this chance”.
