A Langwarrin 87-year-old was ambushed by a group of youths looking for breakfast money before they took her wallet and stole $100 in cash.

An elderly woman on a mobility scooter was robbed by a group of youths looking for money to buy breakfast in Langwarrin.
Up to eight young boys surrounded the 87-year-old near the Southgateway reserve, on the corner of Hornsby Dr, about 10.30am on Thursday, June 30.
They told her they wanted money for breakfast to which the lady took out her purse, intending to give the group $15.
One boy took her wallet, stole a $100 note before struggling with the lady as she tried to retrieve her purse.
The group threw her belongings on the ground then “casually” walked away towards Centre Rd.
The Langwarrin woman was shaken by the attack and reported it to police on the weekend.
Detective Senior Constable Jason Hamilton-Smith said this behaviour was “worrying” as the woman could have been badly hurt.
“The lady either knocked herself or was knocked by an offender in the scuffle when she was trying to get her belongings back,” he said.
The “stoic and fiercely independent” lady was devastated by the attack with Mr Hamilton-Smith saying her independence has been taken from her.
“They walked straight up to her and surrounded her and started asking for money... This behaviour is completely antisocial and it could have escalated,” he said.
Sen-Constable Hamilton-Smith said the group need to “pull their heads in”.
“These boys need to be held accountable for what they’ve done.”
Detectives are seeking assistance from the public to help identify the group and urge anyone who witnessed or has dashcam footage of the incident to contact crime stoppers on 18000 333 000 or submit an online report.
