Alleged Daily Planet Wellbeing clinic drug trafficker Wayne Doble bailed over more charges

A Cranbourne South man, on bail over an alleged involvement in a clandestine drug lab at the Wellbeing Planet, formerly home to the Daily Planet brothel, has now been accused of carrying counterfeit cash and a weapon.

Accused drug trafficker Wayne Doble, allegedly linked to a clandestine lab raid at a rehab clinic on the former Daily Planet brothel site, has been bailed over more charges.
Accused drug trafficker Wayne Doble, allegedly linked to a clandestine lab raid at a rehab clinic on the former Daily Planet brothel site, has been bailed over more charges.

An accused drug trafficker allegedly linked to a clandestine ice lab being run out of a treatment clinic that was formerly the Daily Planet brothel is facing more charges.

Wayne Douglas Doble appeared at the online Frankston Magistrates’ Court on Monday accused of possessing counterfeit money, prescription drugs, proceeds of crime cash and a controlled weapon.

The 62-year-old is contesting the charges and was bailed to his parents’ Cranbourne South address to appear in court again next month.

Mr Doble is also facing far more serious charges, including trafficking a commercial quantity of drugs, over a police raid at The Wellbeing Planet rehabilitation centre in Elsternwick late last year.

Formerly the Daily Planet brothel, it became a live-in drug treatment centre in 2018.

In December last year drug squad detectives raided the Horne St premises and arrested several people, including Mr Doble, in relation to an alleged clandestine drug lab set-up.

The court heard a month ago police saw Mr Doble sat in a parked car using his phone.

Officers allegedly found three counterfeit $100 notes and a Swiss Army knife in the glove box.

Police say they also discovered $1600 in cash, which they consider proceeds of crime, and 11 small vials of a prescription medication in his home.

Precise details of when and where the alleged offending took place were not revealed in court.

Mr Doble’s lawyer said he didn’t know the counterfeit money was there and the vials of the prescription drug had been tidied into a wardrobe by his mum while he was on remand.

He said the knife was also a spanner tool he had used to connect a car battery, and the $1600 was legitimate money he had withdrawn from his bank.

He said they were contesting the legality of the search of the car and Mr Doble had already spent a month on remand for these charges, which would outweigh any penalty the court would likely impose if he was found guilty.

He said Mr Doble was “a caretaker” at the treatment clinic and not involved in any drug trafficking and he was vigorously defending those charges.

Magistrate Gerard Lethbridge said these latest charges would unlikely warrant a penalty of more than 30 days in jail, time which he has already served, even if he was guilty.

Mr Doble was released on bail to face court again on October 5 and is set to appear for a committal mention on the alleged commercial trafficking charges in December.
