Alex Dimopoulos: Frankston cops allegedly targeted, threatened by potty-mouthed drunk
A Frankston drunk’s seven-year grudge against police has landed him in trouble after allegedly launching a disturbing tirade on Facebook where he threatened to kill them. But Alex Dimopoulos said there was a very important reason for why he should get bail.

A Frankston alcoholic who allegedly threatened to murder local police officers pleaded for bail because his new pet kitten was left alone at home with no one to feed it, a court heard.
And Alex Dimopoulos, 47, told the Frankston Magistrates Court he feared he would die from coronavirus if he caught the disease in the custody cells because some prisoners were refusing to wear face masks on Tuesday.
It comes after one of Dimopoulos’ concerned Facebook friends contacted police after the ex-jewellery store worker allegedly launched an explosive rant between July 20 and July 28 targeting police who arrested him following separate incidents in 2012 and 2013.
Dimopoulos allegedly wrote that a Frankston detective tried to jail him because he allegedly saw the officer walk out of a brothel as he walked inside.
“I want to kill the mother f****** big wig that tried to put me in jail, just because I saw him coming out of a brothel (that) I was going in(to) … just because I bumped into him at an inconvenient time,” the post read.
“You piece of s*** Detective, I can’t wait to catch up with you, I’m going to f****** kill you …(the police) have f***** my life up.
“I’m ready to murder every single one of those s*** talking pricks.”
Prosecutor Chris Nieuwesteeg said Dimopoulos, who was on bail for making threats to kill, also threatened to murder a “b**** C***” prosecutor involved in a hearing relating to his driver’s licence.
His ex-employer was also forced to close his jewellery business after he was allegedly told Dimopoulos would break his arms.
But Dimopoulos, who represented himself in court, said he was supposed to write “bash’ instead of “kill” in his Facebook post directed at the detective and that he regretted abusing the female prosecutor.
“I felt bad, it was a young lady, I felt like giving her a hug … it must have been misunderstood what I said,” he told the court.
“(And) as soon as I re-read what I posted (on Facebook) I changed (the words) ‘kill’ to ‘bash’ within five minutes (of posting).
“It was a personal post, I didn’t think (the detective) would see it … I might have a rant every now and then but that’s just how I deal with things, I’m p***** off with the treatment from Frankston police.”
Mr Nieuwesteeg said officers didn’t know why Dimopoulos launched the social media tirade more than seven years after his arrest but said the abuse may have been triggered by heavy drinking.
Dimopoulos, who is unemployed, said he should be granted bail because there was no one at his home to feed his new pet kitten and he feared he would catch coronavirus in the cells.
But Magistrate Gerard Lethbridge suggested Mr Dimopoulos contact the RSPCA or a neighbour to organise for the cat to be fed.
“People can be very frightened by someone threatening to murder them, bash them,” he said.
Dimopoulos, charged with making threats to kill and threat to inflict serious injury, was denied bail.
He will reappear via video link on August 18.
