Air Wing assists in arrests of two riders on allegedly stolen bikes riding through Melbourne

Police have arrested two riders who were riding allegedly stolen bikes through multiple Melbourne suburbs overnight.

Police have arrested two motorcycle riders on Thursday night after they were caught allegedly speeding and running red lights.

The first rider was nabbed in Berwick after police allegedly spotted him riding down Heatherton Rd in Dandenong ailing to stop for traffic lights and travelling at speed just before 5.30pm on Wednesday.

He was tracked by the air wing as he travelled through Dandenong, Casey and Knox police service areas before the rider pulled up to a home Berwick.

Police cordoned off the area and moved in to arrest the man on Neagle Mews as he tried to move the bike into a property.

The 37-year-old man allegedly tried to run from police before he was arrested following a short foot pursuit.

He has been charged with theft of the motorcycle and other traffic and speeding related offences.

The Berwick man has been bailed to appear before Dandenong Magistrates’ Court later this year.

In the second incident the air wing spotted another allegedly speeding rider as he travelled along Seaford Rd in Seaford, travelling at what was believed to be 130km/h in a 60km/h zone about 11.20pm.

Carrum Downs officers tried to intercept the rider near Raymond St, before he allegedly sped off through nearby wetlands, over a pedestrian bridge and into an industrial area.

The air wing was able to keep an eye on the rider who travelled through Dandenong, Cranbourne and into Frankston, at times travelling at alleged speeds of up to 180km/h.

He then entered a multi-level carpark on Beach St in Frankston where police closed in and arrested the 27-year-old man as he left the carpark.

The Seaford man has been charged with the theft of the motorcycle, conduct endangering life and other traffic related offences.

He has been bailed to appear before Frankston Magistrates’ Court later this year.
