BRAZEN NAVY SEX FIEND
An ex-Royal Australian Navy sailor who sexually assaulted a female colleague while both were on duty at HMAS Cerberus has avoided a jail term.
Brodie Reid was sentenced at the Defence Force Magistrates Court sitting at HMAS Cerberus after pleading guilty to committing an act of indecency without consent.
Reid was dismissed from the Navy after he assaulted his victim in a common room at the Crib Point training base in 2020.
The court heard Reid grabbed his victim’s hand and placed it on his erect penis.
“Do you like that?” Reid asked.
“Just do it, no one is going to see it.”
Reid repeated his lewd conduct then attempted to grab his victim’s groin area.
The sex fiend removed his penis from his pants, grabbed his victim’s head and forced it towards his groin, the court heard.
“It will be fine, no one will see,” Reid said.
Reid was spared jail time but the sentencing magistrate said dismissal from the Navy “satisfied the competing sentencing considerations he was required to balance”.
FORMER CERBERUS CHILD SEX SICKO
A depraved navy seaman groomed several underage girls via Instagram and Snapchat, and sexually assaulted a 13-year-old victim at a Melbourne park.
Clayton Wilson was sentenced in the County Court in March 2020 to a minimum 26-month jail term after pleading guilty to sexual penetration of a child under 16.
Wilson hunted his victims while stationed as a trainee naval electrician at HMAS Cerberus between August and October 2018.
Wilson used Instagram and then Snapchat to “bombard” his victims with hundreds of “sexualised” messages and images.
The sailor offered his victims cash and gifts in exchange for lewd photos.
He told his victims – all aged between 13 and 15 – that he was younger than what he was.
Wilson’s lewd offending did not stop even after he became aware his victims were underage, the court heard.
Wilson told one victim he wanted to have sex with her.
The court heard Wilson obtained her mobile number but she blocked him.
The fiend also offered her “hundreds of dollars” for lewd photos.
Wilson then groomed a 13-year-old victim he sexually assaulted at a Melbourne park.
Wilson offered another victim “$500-$1500” for lewd images.
Two victims reported Wilson to police in November 2018
Investigators discovered more than 2200 text messages between Wilson and a victim.
Wilson was arrested and charged but later released on bail with conditions including not to contact his victims.
However, Wilson created fake social media aliases and harassed his victims multiple times between December 2018 and February 2019.
He asked them why they had reported him to police.
Wilson, originally from Perth, served nine months in the navy before he was discharged.
The court heard Wilson had been drinking alcohol and doing drugs while stationed at the Crib Point base.
Wilson, who was made a registered sex offender for life, was jailed for a maximum 48 months.
DIRTY PUCKAPUNYAL RAPIST
A Puckapunyal soldier raped and sexually assaulted a female colleague who had been asleep in her bed at the central Victorian army barracks.
Jermaine Schmidt, 23, was sentenced in the County Court in August to a minimum three-year jail term after he was found guilty of rape and sexual assault.
Schmidt violated his victim after she and some friends visited the base pub nicknamed ‘the boozer’ a few years ago.
The court heard Schmidt was one of only two soldiers at the base pub when the victim and her friends arrived.
The victim, who had never been “intimate” with the man, left the boozer shortly later.
Schmidt sent the victim two text messages after she had gone back to room and fallen asleep.
Schmidt wrote: “Be coooooooooool” and “What is the room number”.
The victim was woken shortly after by Schmidt and another soldier who were looking for cigarettes but she sent them on their way,
Shortly after, the victim woke again to find Schmidt in her room tapping her leg.
Schmidt asked the victim if he could stay in her room but she said “no”.
However, the degenerate grub “nagged” his victim for another 10 or 15 minutes pleading to stay in her room.
The victim “in defeat” allowed Schmidt to stay in the room but only if he “stayed on his side of the bed”.
Schmidt sexually assaulted the victim who woke up and asked him what he was doing.
The victim told Schmidt to stop so he said “sorry” and rolled over.
The court heard the victim wrapped herself in her quilt tighter and moved closer to the wall to “make it harder for (Schmidt) to touch her”.
The victim woke about an hour later to find her assailant touching her, kissing her neck and attempting to remove her pyjamas and underwear.
Schmidt then raped his victim.
The victim told Schmidt to stop but he didn’t.
Instead, Schmidt became more forceful and pinned the victim down.
The victim was able to get Schmidt off her so he said “sorry” again, rolled over and fell asleep.
The victim fled to a bathroom where she remained in an “upset state” for 30 minutes.
Schmidt was jailed for a maximum five years.
FILTHY NAVY VETERAN CHILD GROOMER
A navy veteran turned personal trainer was exposed as a sicko sex fiend after he groomed two targets he believed were underage schoolgirls.
Matthew Minney was sentenced in the County Court in October 2020 to a three-year adjourned undertaking after pleading guilty to use a carriage service to groom a child under 16.
Minney sent sordid messages via social media KiK to undercover police posing as underage teen girls between May and September 2019.
The court was told Minney – who also pleaded guilty to solicit child porn using a carriage service – groomed his targets and solicited lewd images.
Minney, a former personal trainer who managed the Keysborough F45 gym at the time of the offending, knew both his targets were underage and at school.
Minney told his first target: “You know I want you as my girl.”
The operative sent Minney a photo at his request of a young girl with blonde hair and a pink T-shirt.
“I think we could have a lot of fun together,” Minney replied.
Minney texted his target another time while the operative pretended to be sick in bed.
“Good cuddle weather,” Minney said.
Minney then requested an image of the girl while she was in the bathroom.
“I want to see all of you!!,” he said.
“You are really sexy.
“One more pic please … Of your face and body. Oh and one of your butt!!!.”
The operative told Minney she had recently turned 15 and the pair discussed the legality of their correspondence.
“Well technically I shouldn’t be doing anything with you until you are 16,” Minney said.
The sex creep then asked the operative to meet him in person.
Minney messaged his second target in September.
He learned early that he was messaging a purported 14-year-old schoolgirl.
Minney continued his lewd messaging and even asked his victim about her sexual experience.
“Let me see my girl xx,” he said.
Minney requested to meet his target then police — who had been onto the pervert since January — pounced and raided his home on October 3.
Investigators seized his phone and several images he received from a target.

Minney was also handed a two-and-a-half year community correction order was and made a registered sex offender for 15 years.
EX-PARATROOPER’S CHILD SEX CRIMES
A former paratrooper had sex with a 14-year-old schoolgirl at a southeast football ground then told his victim not to worry about getting pregnant.
Stephen Ealam was sentenced in the County Court in October 2020 to a minimum nine-year jail term following a string of sickening incidents.
In one incident Ealam took his victim to a Frankston football club shed in mid-2012 where he sexually penetrated and committed other lewd acts on her.
The court heard Ealam told his victim “not to worry about getting pregnant” because he’d had a “vasectomy”.
Ealam also told his victim “not to say anything” because he would be jailed and someone would “kill or rape him”.
The depraved fiend also warned his victim that if she said anything then she would also be locked up.
Ealam roamed free until September 2019 when police arrested him at his workplace.
The victim, in her victim statement read to the court, said Ealam “took away my voice, my freedom (and) my innocence”.
The court heard Ealam completed a boilermaker apprenticeship then joined the Australian Army as an engineer before becoming a paratrooper.
Ealam “cleared dead bodies” in Kosovo and Papua New Guinea and suffers with post-traumatic stress disorder, the court heard.
Ealam, who pleaded guilty to a stack of charges including sexual penetration of a child under 16, was jailed for a maximum of 15 years and six months.
He was made a registered sex offender for life.
