A man and three teenagers allegedly tried evading police in rideshare vehicles after dumping stolen car

A man from Melbourne’s east and three teenagers have been charged after a late night joy ride where they allegedly hopped on rideshare vehicles to evade police.

A man and three teens allegedly dumped a stolen car and jumped into a rideshare vehicle in an attempt to evade police in Melbourne’s east on Tuesday morning.

Police spotted an allegedly stolen white SUV on the EastLink freeway near Vermont on Tuesday night about 11.30pm.

The group allegedly dumped the car before taking rideshare services to Glen Waverley, where they were arrested and charged by police.

A 19-year-old Rowville man has been charged with theft of motor vehicle and possessing a drug of dependence.

He has been bailed and will appear at Melbourne’s Magistrates’ court next month.

A 15-year-old has been charged with theft of motor vehicle, handling stolen goods, reckless conduct, dangerous and unlicensed driving, possession of cannabis, possession of a control weapon and committing an indictable offence while on bail.

A 16 year old has been charged with theft of motor vehicle, possession of a controlled weapon and committing an indictable offence while on bail.

Another 16-year-old was charged with theft of a motor vehicle.

The three teens have been bailed to appear at children’s court later this year.
