A CASEY woman who has found homes for hundreds of vulnerable cats and kittens now needs a roof over her own head.

2nd Chance Cat Rescue founder Daniela Maslen said she, her husband and 15 rescue cats were homeless, due to a delay in getting the funds from the sale of her former home.

ADOPTION DAY A PURR-FECT CELEBRATIONS

Ms Maslen had packed up her Hampton Park home last week ready to move into a new property she had bought in Cranbourne, when she was advised settlement had fallen through.

“After packing everything into a semi-trailer, after six months of careful planning and expecting to settle into our new home we got a phone call from our lawyers stating that the purchaser of our home has not got approved bank finance,” she told the Leader.

“I have 15 cats in cages ready for the big move. Only food for one night and the clothes on our back.”

Ms Maslen operated the animal rescue organisation out of her home and had bought the new property to provide more space for her feline charges.

She said it had been difficult to find temporary lodging that would also house the rescued cats, which were not suitable for adoption yet. “Catteries can be very expensive and they won’t take cats without vaccination papers — which are in storage with our belongings,” she said.

“We are in limbo. This is just a nightmare.”

The pair and the cats have accommodation until Friday, but Ms Maslen was concerned the cats needed to stay in cages while there and she was running out of food for them.
