A CASEY-based cat rescue group is about to turn four – and all it wants for its birthday is help rehoming more kittens.
The 2nd Chance Cat Rescue group is holding an adoption day today, and founder Daniela Maslen said it was hoping to match lots of kittens with loving new families.
Ms Maslen said 2nd Chance had rehomed more than 500 cats since its inception and stayed in contact with adoptive families to provide support and rehome again if the adoption was a bad fit.
She said the group was looking for more dedicated volunteers.
“Come to our adoption day and have a chat with us,” she said. “Later in the year we are holding a foster carer workshop and hope to see a few interested people signing up for it.
“We are looking for dedicated cat lovers who would love to make a difference.”
Ms Maslen said allowing animal rescuers access to council pounds to see if animals could be rehomed rather than euthanased – sometimes within eight days – would help address the increasing problem of strays in the southeast.
“Some councils allow rescue groups to … get cats and dogs out of shelters before their eight days,” she said.
“In Casey, Cardinia and Dandenong there are so many strays.”
The 2nd Chance group, which relies totally on donations, is celebrating its four-year anniversary today, from 11am-3pm, with an adoption day and barbecue at the Best Friends Pet SuperCentre, on the corner of South Gippsland Highway and Thompsons Rd, Cranbourne.
Kittens cost $200 and have been desexed, vaccinated, micro-chipped, flea and worm treated and come with a kitten pack.
