STEVE Waugh has long had a passion for photography.
His photos have featured in the 13 books he’s written, many from overseas tours with the Australian cricket team after his Test debut in 1985.
“I’m inquisitive by nature and I’m very interested in what’s going on around me,” the former Test skipper said.
“We led an insular life on tour, but I saw there were a lot of things out there and the best way to capture it was with a camera, particularly in places like India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and the West Indies.
“The more you get out amongst the people the better shots you get.”
Ahead of our city’s biggest visual celebration, #SnapMelbourne, this Wednesday November 22, the Canon ambassador revealed his top tips.
“Each night I try to capture a different sunset,” Waugh, 52, said. “I love nature and animals and things we take for granted like rainbows, clouds and storms.”
He also loves photos which capture humanity at its best, paritularly one of his charity’s ambassador Renee Eliades, a 25-year-old with a rare form of dwarfism.
“She only weighs 10kg and is 82cm tall. She is an amazing young lady and this is her hand and my hand,” he said of the photo.
The cricket legend has posted hundreds of his photos on his Instagram page @stevewaugh.
