SIX men have been committed to stand trial for an alleged violent home invasion and confrontation in Shepparton earlier this year.

The men —most appearing from prison and others from their homes — all faced the Shepparton Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.

Police have alleged six men — Kenadi Ramadan, Mohamed Elnour, Kuok Bol, Maluk Thou, Joseph Gar and Deng Chol — travelled to the Kialla address on January 11 with the intent to assault a person over an allegedly stolen car.

The court heard the group allegedly entered the property as trespassers with an intent to assault, before a man was allegedly beaten in the driveway.

A woman was also punched in the face during the incident, which was captured on the home’s CCTV cameras.

Two of the accused made applications for bail on Wednesday, including Joseph Gar and Deng Chol.

The police informant, Detective Senior Constable Luke Arrowsmith from Shepparton Crime Investigation Unit, said Gar was pictured as one of the members of the group in the CCTV footage.

It is believed he alerted the group to police arrival, with Gar later arrested outside a nearby retirement village.

The court heard Gar, facing charges including recklessly and intentionally causing injury, was completing a community corrections order at the time.

Detective Senior Constable Arrowsmith said he had a violent criminal history and feared he would reoffend if released.

While his partner addressed the court and said she and their three children were under financial stress without his income, his bail was refused.

The magistrate said there was “compelling” evidence against him and his family’s situation was “regrettably common” when people were incarcerated.

Chol, who the court heard allegedly began yelling “that’s my boy’s car” upon arrival at the property, also applied for bail.

“F——— this shit man. I swear I’ll kill someone tonight. I’ll kill someone tonight,” the informant told the court Chol said, as he repeatedly asked for the car keys.

The informant said 11 warrants had been issued for his arrest for failing to appear at court in the past and spoke against him being released from custody.

But his lawyer said his client had community ties and potential work, while there was a potential delay in the case going to trial so he should be released.

While the magistrate said while it was a very strong police case, Chol had no similar criminal history and released him on bail.

All six accused were ordered to appear at the Melbourne County Court for a directions hearing in September.
