Sakip Alijevski has pleaded guilty to allegedly falling asleep behind the wheel with meth in his system

A drugged-up Melbourne truck driver fell asleep at the wheel of his rig on a dark stretch of highway in the state’s west before veering across the road and smashing into a tree.

Sakip Alijevski, 42 was lucky to survive, after he was ejected from the cabin on the Western Highway in January 2021 while not wearing a seatbelt.

Alijevski, pleaded guilty to 27 charges related to the incident, in the Werribee Magistrates’ Court on Thursday.

The court heard the incident happened at 1am as Alijevski drove his truck from Altona to Nhill.

The truck travelled 135m along an embankment before the trailer ended up on nearby train tracks.

The court heard witnesses found Alijevski at about 2am and he was flown to The Alfred hospital.

The court heard Police discovered Alijevski had methamphetamine in his blood at the time of the crash.

He was arrested and released on summons.

The plea hearing on Thursday was adjourned for further plea hearing in April.
