Extraordinary dashcam footage has emerged showing a B-double truck driving off the side of the road and creating a 200-meter long trail of destruction.

On February 28, a truck driver lost control of his vehicle while driving along Hampstead Road in Manningham, in central Adelaide. The incident caused significant damage to a bus stop and the front fences of several homes.

According to the driver’s company, DTL Timbers, the incident occurred because the driver suffered a medical episode as he was driving.

The 31-year-old sustained only a cut to his head and was taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital, where he underwent mandatory drug and alcohol testing.

At the time of the incident, the truck was passing through a busy intersection. However, there were no pedestrians on the footpath or in their front yards, which is why the accident did not result in any deaths or more serious injuries.

Photos from the scene show the vehicle’s windshield was completely shattered, and nearby trees were scattered across the ground.

When emergency services arrived at the scene just after 10am, they expected serious injuries and casualties from the carnage.

“Our primary concern was to search for any casualties,” said Kevin Holmes from South Australia‘s Metropolitan Fire Service.

“We ended up using a thermal imaging camera around the B-double to ascertain if there was a life lost.”

Despite the truck demolishing a bus stop and careening across a pedestrian-free footpath for 200 meters, the driver says he does not remember what happened.

“At this stage, he‘s still trying to recall what happened. He’s really, really grateful that nobody was injured in any way shape or form,” said Xavier Terrell, the office manager at DTL Timbers.

The truckie was slumped over the console when a motorist rushed over to help.

“The truck was making a hell of a noise when I got there, and I was thinking, could it blow up? Or what could happen?” one motorist said.
