A family is hoping technological advances will hold the key to finding out what happened to a Ballarat man who disappeared 56 years ago.
Ronald Peter Owen was last seen in Wendouree at some time in 1966.
His family believe he travelled to New South Wales shortly after he was last seen at their Norman Street home.
Ronald, who was then aged 18, was not reported as missing to police at the time.
A spokesperson for NSW police said a family member this month reported his disappearance and provided a sample of his DNA in the hope it could help find Ronald.
The DNA was provided at a pop-up familial DNA collection program at Queanbeyan.
Officers attached to the state crime command’s Missing Persons Registry have since launched an investigation.
Ronald was described as being of Caucasian appearance with a solid build when he was last seen.
He was about 175cm tall, had a fair complexion and brown hair.
He would currently be 75-years-old.
