Parents should be ‘worried’ about the ‘indoctrination’ in early learning

The Herald Sun can reveal Mornington Peninsula’s poshest parents, with families at one school earning more than $200,000.

Parents sending their children to Peninsula Grammar earn an average family income of $239,000, making them the wealthiest in the area.

Peninsula Grammar parents pay at least $355,184 to send their kids to the elite private school from prep to Year 12, with 2024 fees showing they spend at least $158,484 for primary grades and $196,700 for high school fees.

This puts Peninsula Grammar ahead of the school’s main rival, Toorak College in Mount Eliza, whose parents earn $236,000.

But Toorak College parents spend more on school fees than their rivals, Peninsula Grammar. One child’s education from prep to high school costs them a total of $360,740, with the total primary grade fees setting them back at least $160,380 and for secondary grades at least $200,360.

Third on the poshest parents list are families sending their children to Balcombe Grammar School, which has an average annual income of $187,000.

These parents will spend at least $81,389 on one child’s education until high school, paying at least $10,220 for primary grades and $11,992 for high school grades.

Meanwhile, Flinders Christian Community College parents who earn an average of $167,000 yearly pay at least $108,700 for one child’s education from prep to high school, which can be broken down by $51,580 fees for primary and $57,120 for secondary.

Families with kids going to Padua College are next on the poshest parents list.

Kids reveal what really makes a good teacher

Parents at Padua College make an average income of $152,000 and spare at least $45,085 for schooling for one child.

Behind the rest was John Paul College, with a family median income of $142,000.

A complete secondary education will set John Paul College parents back at least $37,680.

The new federal figures are for median family incomes, which mean half of the annual family incomes of a school are lower, and the other half are higher.

Analysis by Save Our Schools, a state school funding lobby group, shows a number of the leading schools with the wealthiest parents are over funded by the federal government by more than $20m between 2022 and 2028.

The parental income figures are used in part to calculate school funding by the Commonwealth government, but Save Our Schools national convener Trevor Cobbold said the model was flawed because it did not take into account the incomes of many grandparents who pay school fees.
