A man has pushed and slapped a fellow member of a Melbourne mosque after an argument about entering the kitchen, a court has heard.
Zubair Ahmed, 52, pleaded guilty to unlawful assault at the Ringwood Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
Ahmed was at the Islamic Society of Melbourne Eastern Region mosque in Lysterfield on March 16, 2024, when he was asked to help carry food trays from the kitchen.
Another attendee thought he should not have been inside the kitchen and began to yell at Ahmed to leave.
Ahmed became enraged and pushed the victim.
The victim pulled Ahmed’s pants down as he fell, before Ahmed slapped the victim’s face.
When he was arrested and interviewed, Ahmed said he was “shocked” by his own actions and that he was tired and fasting at the time of the assault.
The court heard he was “deeply embarrassed” by the fight.
He was sentenced to an eight month community corrections order without conviction and ordered to make a $200 donation to the court fund.
