A man has been taken to hospital after a truck rollover caused more than 22 tons of timber to cover a large section of the Melba Highway in Yering.
Emergency workers including police, paramedics, SES, Coldstream, Lilydale and Yarra Glen CFA crews were called to the scene when the logging truck tipped over near Chateau Yering just before 7.30am.
The Melba Highway will be shut for the next few hours while the truck is lifted and the scene cleared, Coldstream CFA captain Shaun Bethell said.
Mr Bethell said the truck driver was not suspected of speeding or fatigue when the accident happened and authorities were still trying to understand what happened.
He said a large amount of pine had been strewn across the road when the truck rolled over as it tried to navigate the corner and there was significant damage done to the truck when it tipped onto its side.
Mr Bethell said the driver had been taken to Maroondah Hospital with minor injuries.
“Melba Highway is still closed and it will be for another hour or two while we’re getting the forklift to lift the truck up,” he said.
