Melbourne Boomers’ basketballers are settling into their new digs at the State Basketball Centre in Wantirna South.
The Knox-based Women’s National Basketball League team welcomed Victorian Treasurer Tim Pallas for a tour before the game against cross-town rivals Southside Flyers on Sunday, January 12.
The State Government injected $50,000 to upgrade the Boomers’ rooms after the club signed a five-year deal with Knox Council to be based at the venue until 2023.
The refurbishments include a large personalised locker for every player, new carpets, paint, lighting, shower upgrades and a media room.
Boomers general manager Christy Collier said the club was grateful for the upgraded rooms, which came during a time of “exciting” progress for the sport.

The Boomers will also benefit from the $126 million expansion of the planned State Basketball Centre in the coming years.
“The upgrade is an investment in the future for the Deakin Melbourne Boomers and sport in the state, and we’re grateful for the Government’s ongoing commitment to basketball in Victoria,” Ms Collier said.
“With significant redevelopment set for the State Basketball Centre, we’re excited to enter a period of growth for the club both on and off the court.”
