Westfield Knox: Irish pub closes at Knox Ozone

Knox’s beloved The Irish pub has been declared dead more than once, most recently last week. Now, its operators have announced it may return in a different guise, prompting one loyal patron’s plea to “stop playing with our emotions”.

The Knox Irish pub may not be dead yet.

Management of Seamus O’Toole’s Irish Pub took to Facebook last night to address their fans, after Westfield Knox confirmed last week the pub had closed at Knox Ozone.

The pub’s management said:

“We will never be forgotten, as we are forever in your hearts.

“We will continue our longstanding Westfield relationship and are presently exploring all options for a new modern Irish concept so stay ready for more to come.

“Stay tuned for the day we return to our beloved loyal local patrons.”

Reactions on the post were mixed with many confused about what it meant, with one fan asking the pub to “stop playing with our emotions”.

Another commented “Irish and modern do not belong in the same sentence” while another compared the pub to the cockroach of Knox City because it never dies.

Westfield Knox centre manager Kristian Nicholls said Seamus O’Toole’s Irish Pub had been a much-loved institution at the Ozone precinct for the past 18 years.

“The Irish closed in March and is no longer part of the Westfield Knox Ozone precinct,” Mr Nicholls said

“While we were sad to say goodbye to The Irish, we have jointly agreed to continue our longstanding relationship, with a view to exploring possible future partnerships.

“We will continue to update our customers on any new retailer news, via the Westfield Knox website.”

Fans of the pub have been taking to its Facebook page to ask when it would reopen.

Angelita Margaret Stewart said: “Nearly fainted in the middle of the Ozone upon seeing that the sign is missing and windows are locked as well as a gate of the door. Are you guys okay?”

Jessica Davies asked: “You guys okay? The signs gone.”

KNOX NURSERY OWNERS SELLING UP AFTER 60 YEARS

Fans of the pub were devastated last year at news the pub was set to close.

More than 1000 people braved the cold for what was set to be its final Monday night drinks last May.

But the operators of the bar then issued a statement confirming the venue had been given a reprieve and would stay open until early this year.

Knox Leader has attempted to contact the pub owner.
