A woman has fought off three attackers who tried to pull her from her car in Wandin North after they flipped the stolen car they had been driving.
Police have described the 26-year-old’s actions as “incredibly courageous”, saying she was “very lucky” the incident ended the way it did.
Yarra Ranges detective Senior Constable Ross Bingley said the Woori Yallock woman was driving home from her hospitality shift just before 1am when she came across two men and a woman in the middle of Warburton Highway.
Sen-Constable Bingley said they had just climbed out of a nearby Audi sedan that had flipped and landed on its roof, which police have since discovered was stolen.
He said the woman refused to give the trio a lift before one man jumped in the passenger seat and began punching her, while the female offender got in the back seat.
The second man opened the driver door and tried to drag the victim out of the car.
Sen-Constable Bingley said the driver resisted, jamming her foot against the windscreen and wedging herself in place.
The attack was interrupted by a couple in a passing car who stopped to help, and the offenders then fled the scene.
