Wantirna South crime: Alleged 7-Eleven armed robbery on Burwood Highway

An allegedly knife-wielding man who tried to rob a Knox service station had his escape attempt thwarted — here’s why.

A man has been charged after an alleged armed robbery at a Wantirna South 7-Eleven – opposite the Knox police station.

Officers were quick to arrest the man after the alleged incident at the shop on the corner of Burwood Highway and Stud Rd at 7pm on Thursday, May 6.

Knox Senior Constable Mikael Hamalainen the man allegedly entered the shop and produced a knife before making unsuccessful demands for money.

The man then allegedly fled but was quickly caught by police.

A Wantirna South man, 49, has been charged with robbery.

Meanwhile police are investigating an alleged brawl and assault in Bayswater also on Thursday night.

Sen-Constable Hamalainen said six people were helping police with their inquiries after the Mountain Highway incident, which saw one man taken to hospital for observation.
