Wantirna fatal: private funeral service for newlyweds Matt ­Goland and Bita Zaeim

MORE than 300 mourners have packed a Boronia funeral home to remember alleged hit-run crash couple Matt ­Goland and Bita Zaeim.

ALLEGED hit-run crash victims Matt ­Goland and Bita Zaeim have been farewelled at a private service attended by hundreds of friends and family.

The joint funeral service in Wantirna this afternoon attracted more than 300 mourners, who packed a Boronia Rd funeral home.

Mr Goland, 38, and Ms Zaeim, 32, married in May last year.

They were driving home to The Basin about 1am on Saturday April 21, when a four-wheel-drive struck their car at the corner of Boronia and Stud roads in Wantirna South.

Mr Goland died at the scene and Ms Zaeim was taken to hospital but died of her injuries.

There was standing room only for this afternoon’s service at Heritage & Heritage funeral home on Boronia Rd.

In lieu of flowers, the couple’s relatives asked for donations to be made to the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

Police have charged 19-year-old Eric Victorsen with culpable driving causing the deaths of Mr Goland and Ms Zaeim, and he also faces charges related to theft of a $170,000 Lexus four-wheel-drive. He will reappear in court in August.

A 15-year-old girl, who was allegedly the passenger, has been charged with theft of a motor vehicle and being an accessory to the crash. She will face a children’s court at a later date.
