ALLEGED hit-run crash victims Matt Goland and Bita Zaeim have been farewelled at a private service attended by hundreds of friends and family.
The joint funeral service in Wantirna this afternoon attracted more than 300 mourners, who packed a Boronia Rd funeral home.
Mr Goland, 38, and Ms Zaeim, 32, married in May last year.
They were driving home to The Basin about 1am on Saturday April 21, when a four-wheel-drive struck their car at the corner of Boronia and Stud roads in Wantirna South.
TEENS CHARGED OVER ALLEGED HIT-AND-RUN
Mr Goland died at the scene and Ms Zaeim was taken to hospital but died of her injuries.
There was standing room only for this afternoon’s service at Heritage & Heritage funeral home on Boronia Rd.
In lieu of flowers, the couple’s relatives asked for donations to be made to the National Breast Cancer Foundation.
Police have charged 19-year-old Eric Victorsen with culpable driving causing the deaths of Mr Goland and Ms Zaeim, and he also faces charges related to theft of a $170,000 Lexus four-wheel-drive. He will reappear in court in August.
A 15-year-old girl, who was allegedly the passenger, has been charged with theft of a motor vehicle and being an accessory to the crash. She will face a children’s court at a later date.
