Tegan Visser from Newtown enjoys it when her dad supports her on the sporting field.

“I play a lot of football, so just him coming to watch me, and coaching me.

“He encourages me and makes me do stuff that I don’t want to do in the moment, but later I thank him for it.”

Jess Malone from Newtown loves the quirky meals that her dad whips up in the kitchen.

“My dad doesn’t know how to cook at all, but there are a couple of little, cheeky recipes.

“So, learning those little recipes that aren’t special at all but they mean a lot to me and my dad because he’s the only person that I’ve ever heard that eats this type of food.

“He makes this banana toasty … it’s bread, butter, sliced banana inside and then you put honey, and put it in a toasty machine, and it’s actually delicious.”

Thomas McGovern from Bell Park looks back fondly on a holiday to Perth he had with his dad.

“My favourite time spent with my dad would probably be going to Perth.

“We went there for a holiday, and that was pretty fun.

“It’s pretty hot there, but it was enjoyable.

“We were there for six months … a lot of swimming, motorbike riding, lots of fun.”

Trent Millsteed from Curlew remembers camping with his dad.

“My favourite time, favourite memory’s probably growing up camping on the Murray.

“Because I grew up on the Murray, and it just feels like home as well.

“And you get that one-on-one time with the old man as well, which is good.”

Ryan Templeton looks back on regular fishing trips with his father as some of his best memories with the man.

“It’d probably be the fishing trips my brother and I used to take with dad.”

“We’d leave home at like 4 or 5 in the morning. At the time it felt like a chore but looking back now they’re really great memories.”

Joseph Scerri, Doncaster

“Of course there are moments in time that I have loved, like when we were younger and sitting around the table hearing all his stories,” Mr Scerri said.

“But my favourite memories and moments with my dad aren’t specific,” he said.

“I just really love going over, and knowing he’s happy and in a good mood.”

“Old music will be playing on the radio, or he’ll be having a joke with mum, and I just can tell they’re both happy. Those are my favourite moments with him.”

Ashley Taylor, Croydon

“I love going to the footy with my dad, Don, it’s a shared passion and an opportunity to connect.

“We’ve been to heaps of Pies games over the years, including the 1990 and 2018 grand finals together, they’re something I’ll never forget.

“And also going to the beach in Anglesea, and waterskiing on the river.”

Nat Malins, Richmond

Nat told Leader about her favourite times she spent with her dad.

“One of my fondest memories with my dad was staying at our holiday house in Annecy,” she said.

“It was always one of his favourite places in the world.

“We would wake up in the morning and walk into town to get fresh croissants.”

Tom Rockwell, Wonthaggi (Bass Coast)

Young Tom is 10-years-old and he said he loves to spend time kicking the footy with his dad.

“I love to play sports with my dad. He is really good at kicking the footy. We always have fun after school and on the weekends,” he said.

“We even went to the footy a couple of weeks ago and we both go for Collingwood.”

Tom said he loved to spend time with his dad because he made him laugh.

“Dad sometimes acts silly when we kick the footy and pretends he can’t play and it makes me laugh,” he said.
