Two men charged after EastLink road rage, Wantirna South crash

A man remains fighting for life in hospital and two drivers have been charged following an alleged road rage incident and crash in Knox over the long weekend.

Two men have been charged over an alleged EastLink road rage incident, which led to a crash in Wantirna South leaving a man fighting for life in hospital.

Police believe two drivers in a white Ford station wagon and white Mitsubishi ute had an altercation while travelling on the toll road about 5pm on March 12.

They both exited at High St Rd in Wantirna South, then turned left onto Stud Rd and continued onto Burwood Highway, back towards EastLink.

The Ford then allegedly collided with a third car, a silver Toyota RAV 4, which overturned onto the median strip near the toll road’s on-ramp.

The driver of the RAV 4, a 52-year-old man, was injured and taken to The Royal Melbourne hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.

Four children inside the Ford, aged between five months and 17 years, were also taken to Box Hill Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, and one remains in hospital.

The Ford driver, a 43-year-old Mooroolbark man, has been charged with dangerous driving causing serious injury and bailed to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on March 16.

The Mitsubishi driver, another 43-year-old Mooroolbark man, has been charged with conduct endangering life and dangerous driving causing a serious injury.

He was also bailed to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on the same date.
