Big things are planned at a brewery in the backstreets of Croydon, which has been voted Maroondah’s best bar.
The Public Brewery topped Leader’s poll of eight nominees to win the title, as voted by readers.
Founder Dale White said he was stoked to see the Lacey St venue, which opened in 2014, be embraced by the community.
Mr White said the honour was a testament to the hard work of his staff and brewing team, particularly during the recent coronavirus pandemic.
“Especially given the last year we’ve had, it’s quite a nice little hug back from the community,” he said.
“Our team worked really hard to keep all the staff motivated through Covid and they put in the hard yards in quiet times, so its exciting.”
The brewery offers a range of beers produced on site, with bestsellers including its Public Draught, 100 Acres pale ale and Red Falcon American red ale.
It has also just put its smashed avocado flavoured sour beer on tap, which was judged one of the top 10 most unique beers at May’s Great Australian Beer Festival.
Mr White said he hoped the pandemic would ease and he and new director Phil Munday could continue to grow the business and introduce a range of new brews and events.
“It’s a genuine business made around people and good experience,” he said.
“We’re really hoping we can see the back of this and come back and enjoy good beer and good times.”
