Maurice Xanthos, who lives nearby, previously told Maroondah Leader most spaces regularly filled up before 8am.
Maroondah Mayor Nora Lamont said during the past three years the parking situation had become worse in Ringwood East, with both sides of Dublin Rd packed with commuters’ cars. “You need to be in the Ringwood station carpark by 6am and it’s becoming like that at Ringwood East,” Cr Lamont said.
“Any station could use more parking, and with more people coming into Maroondah, things will only get worse.”
Cr Mike Symon said he welcomed any commitments to improve parking. “Anything to make is easier for people to get to work and take pressure off our side streets is great for the community,” Cr Symon said.
Eastern Metropolitan state Labor MP Shaun Leane said the party had listened to the community’s demand for more parking. “Only Labor will deliver more spaces and upgrade lighting and CCTV to make the station safer,” Mr Leane said.
Ringwood state Liberal MP Dee Ryall said the Coalition had committed $2.5 million towards paving the carpark, providing more spaces and a safer space to walk, and getting rid of mud and holes in winter. She said the promise also included lighting.
“I’m conscious of Ringwood East’s village-feel, protecting trees and maintaining the character of the area,” Ms Ryall said.
