Cranbourne is hoping its latest recruit will be “instrumental” in its journey back to the Dandenong District’s top flight.

The Eagles have signed Jersey international Harrison Carlyon as their senior coach for 2024-25.

Carlyon made his international debut at just (age) 15 and will be in career-best touch when he lands at Cranbourne, having struck his maiden international ton last week.

The 23-year-old smashed 110 off just 57 deliveries, with an impressive 10 sixes, in a T20 international against Serbia.

Vice-president Alex Hollingsworth said the process of landing Carlyon begun as a wild throw at the stumps.

“We got onto him through Cricket Exchange, we’d seen that pumped up a bit on social media,” he said.

“We were looking to bolster the side and potentially find a coach and being an international player he (Carlyon) stood out a bit.

“We thought ‘you don’t know if you don’t ask, may as well put a feeler out’ and he was happy to have a chat.”

The committee gathered shortly after signing Carlyon and their decision was swiftly justified.

The Eagles searched long and hard to find a stream of Carlyon in action and weren’t disappointed once they did.

“Funnily enough we were having a club meeting at the time (Carlyon made his century) and the only way we could watch the game was on Sportsbet,” Hollingsworth said.

“It was actually cool during the meeting getting to watch him make that ton.

“He hits a long ball, that’s for sure.”

Cranbourne has expectations to be right in the mix for the Turf 2 premiership again and hopes Carlyon’s guidance is the missing piece to the puzzle.

“I think it could be instrumental,” Hollingsworth said.

“Having a chat with him and the commentary around professionalism and how he goes about things, that’s something massive we want to bring into the club and he’s wanting to implement it as well.”

The Eagles travel to Narre Warren round 1 on Saturday, October 5.
