DDCA: Springvale South’s Jordan Wyatt speaks on his Wookey Medal-winning summer

With his name now alongside the DDCA’s greatest players, new Wookey medallist Jordan Wyatt is determined to “form a legacy” at Springvale South. Here’s why there is more to come.

Jordan Wyatt wants his Wookey Medal to be part of a lasting legacy he leaves at Springvale South.

Wyatt took out the Dandenong District’s top individual gong on Sunday, pipping North Dandenong’s Jawid Khan by two votes in a tight count.

The busy right-hander blazed 617 runs at an average of 77, including four half-centuries and two dazzling hundreds.

Wyatt’s blitzing year comes in his third season at the club after back-to-back premierships in his first two.

The “beyond proud” Wyatt thinks he will reflect on joining the great Steven Spoljaric as Springvale South’s Wookey Medal winners once his career ends.

But for now he is focusing on taking out another Turf 1 flag to expand on his rising legacy at the Bloods.

“I am really grateful that I have won the award but don’t play for that individual accolade, all I want to do is win another flag,” he said.

“But it is nice, when I get a bit older, I think I will reflect on it.

“Spolly being the only one prior to myself at Springvale South and the name he’s got in local cricket and district cricket, it’s really cool.

“I am having the most fun I can have playing cricket so I think it’s (Springvale South) the best destination for me and my cricket.

“I want to form a legacy at Springvale South now … I think I have created some sort of legacy but hopefully in the years to come I can expand on that.”

Wyatt’s desire to give back to the Bloods comes as a consequence of the club’s “unwavering” support.

“As soon as I stepped foot into the club, the support I received has been unwavering,” he said.

“It’s not just from the playing group, the guys that come and watch us every week, they’re the ones you want to do it for, the life members.

“They always come and talk to me, no matter who it is, ask how I am going, how my family is going and those little things mean so much to me.

“It’s an environment I am happy with and while I am here I want to make this legacy as big as it can be.

“Hopefully in three weeks’ time I am a three-time premiership player.”

HSD’s Triyan De Silva took out the Charles Gartside Medal in Turf 2 and Doveton North all-rounder Sachith Jayasingha took out Turf 3’s top honour.
