Cranbourne has been forced to search for and sign a new coach just weeks out from the Dandenong District season after the resignation of ex-first class quick Jayde Herrick.
Herrick, 38, signed with Cranbourne in June with bold ambitions for the upcoming Turf 2 season.
He committed to several seasons at the club.
The Eagles released a statement regarding Herrick and his replacement on Wednesday night.
“With great pleasure we announce that Clint Ayres, a cherished life member of our club, has accepted the role of head coach following Jayde’s decision to step down due to unforeseen circumstances,” it read.
It’s understood Herrick was on a pre-planned overseas trip when Cranbourne’s pre-season started.
Club president Chris Lamb was disappointed things didn’t work out with Herrick but wanted to “stick to the positives” surrounding Ayres’ appointment.
“I think we have made another positive call, Clint was someone who wanted the job prior (to Herrick), it’s not like we’re taking someone who is just doing it out of sufferance,” he said.
“He wants to make the position his own and take it on for years to come; we’ve given him the opportunity where if we’re happy with his work we’re happy to extend it moving forward.”
Herrick has made local cricket cameos in Melbourne at Somerville, Langwarrin, Springvale South, Oakleigh, Pakenham Upper Toomuc, Tooradin, Kyabram, Buckley Ridges, Narre Warren and Endeavour Hills.
Herrick has been contacted for comment.
