An L-plater, who boasts more than 13,000 followers on TikTok, was warned he could “end up either dead or killing someone” after he was busted driving at speeds greater than 150km/h.
Railway worker Rusty Jizon Tipoki, 19, fronted Heidelberg Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.
The teen landed in court after he was spotted driving at 151km/h on a 100km/h stretch of road in July 2023, the court heard.
Tipoki, who was never licensed, only held a learner permit at the time of the offences.
In August 2023, a police officer showed up at Tipoki’s home to impound the car, the court heard.
When asked by the officer why he was speeding, Tipoki replied that he “just young and being dumb”.
He also confirmed he was only on his L-plates at the time of the speeding, the court heard.
Magistrate Timothy Hoare told Tipoki he was “very, very lucky” to have “lived to tell the story”.
“This is a really outrageous speed you could have quite easily killed yourself or someone else,” Mr Hoare said.
“(You) could end up either dead or killing someone else at a speed like that”.
Tipoki, who was not convicted, was fined $1000. His licence was cancelled and he will be disqualified from driving for 12 months.
