Construction of what will be Maroondah’s tallest building is set to kick off next month as the apartment complex it will eventually surpass nears completion.
Work will begin in June on the $100 million Ringwood Residences tower at 301 Maroondah Highway, opposite Ringwood Lake.
The 16-storey tower will include a Holiday Inn hotel with 164 rooms on the first six storeys and 76 apartments on levels seven to 15.

Ringwood Residences sales manager Lucas Giannotti said nearly half of the apartments had sold, the majority being the larger ones on offer.
Mr Giannotti said he had also negotiated with some buyers to combine apartments and give them more space.
“If there’s areas where we can make combinations suitable, we certainly make it available and feasible to meet the purchaser’s requirements,” he said.
Mr Giannotti said most purchasers had been downsizers from the outer East and a handful of first homebuyers.
He was confident a vibrant community would be created and the complex would provide communal areas for residents and hotel guests to socialise.
“The community and the demographic are around a similar age,” he said.
“For the people at that stage of their lives, it’s going to be a great place to be.”
Meanwhile, a short walk down the road, the 10-storey 233 East development is set to be finished by the end of July with residents moving in during August.
Harcourts Judd White agent Ken Chen said the building, at 233 Maroondah Highway, would be finished on time and feature 94 apartments from the second level up.
Mr Chen said nearly 70 per cent of the apartments were sold and four businesses would operate on the ground and first floor.
He said a number of parties were in negotiations to operate either restaurants, a gym or offices in the tenancies.
