A ROWVILLE homestead is set to be the latest destination for A-listers and those craving a modern European gastronomic delight.

Renowned restaurateur Jason M Jones will open his next venture at the historic Stamford Park Homestead next to Emmeline Row.

Jones, behind French restaurant Entrecôte in South Yarra and the award-winning Second Home in Eltham, grew up in an 1859 homestead in Maffra.

Even though he now lives in the city, Jones said he had been on the lookout for a property where the city met the country — which was the inspiration behind Stamford Park Homestead.

“We will be roasting our own coffee on-site and eventually baking our own bread in the historic wood fired bread ovens on the property,” Jones said.

He has signed a lease — believed to be at least $50,000 a year — to use the circa-1882 homestead.

The homestead is one of the last remaining Victorian-era houses in the eastern suburbs.

A prominent player in Melbourne’s hospitality scene, Jones’ latest venture will house a 100-seat indoor/outdoor cafe serving breakfast and brunch all day. The overall concept for the homestead was created by Jones and his partner, interior designer Brahman Perera.

The restaurant is expected to open by the end of the year.

Dining rooms will host up to 80 people and several smaller private dining rooms will be available, one with its own private saloon.

Jones said his new menu would use produce sourced from Knox and the Yarra Valley.

Farmers’ markets, moonlight cinema nights, classic car days, and opera and jazz performances will feature on the property.

The homestead is next to the new $133 million Waterlea development that will have 190 apartments, houses and townhouses built by 2021.
