CHILDREN will finally have permission to go bananas in a department store when Myer opens a monkey-themed playground at Eastland this weekend.

In an Australian first, the retailer will open a 1400sq m playground on level three of its Eastland Ringwood store on Saturday.

Maroondah Leader got a sneak peak of the playground as the finishing touches were being made.

Monkey Mania is designed for children up to nine years and includes a foam ball arena, climbing structures, slides, and a ride-on train and track.

There is also a dedicated toddler play area, lolly bar and party zones.

Parents will also be able to chill out in their choice of two cafes.

Monkey Mania has eight playgrounds in NSW and the ACT, with Eastland picked as the first Victorian location.

Myer executive general manager of stores Tony Sutton said the retailer chose Eastland for their first in-store playground due to the high number of young families in the area.

“Being a department store we’re trying to do something different every day, and we think this is quite innovative and a way of doing that,” Mr Sutton said.

Eastland Myer manager Stephanie Birnstihl said Monkey Mania’s arrival was “hugely exciting” for the store.
“If you look around our local community there are a lot of families with kids and there really isn’t anything offered to them out there, and we hope this provides that solution,” she said.

Entry is $13.50 per child for the whole day or $5 for a single train ride. Adults pay $4.50, which includes a free hot drink.

Monkey Mania at Myer Eastland opens at 9am on Saturday.
