Tony Dib says he receives great joy contributing to the community and wants to do so for years to come.
The four-time Maroondah mayor is one of four residents to receive a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in this year’s Queen’s Birthday honours, for his service to local government and Maroondah.
Mr Dib, 65, moved to Australia from Lebanon with his family at age 16 in search of a better life.
He started his local government career as a councillor on the former Broadmeadows Council from 1983-1986 and has been a Maroondah councillor since 2005.
Mr Dib moved to Croydon in 1997 and immediately felt right at home.
“From day one, I loved everything about it and I love everything in Maroondah,” Mr Dib said.

“I’m humbled and honoured to have it and I hope I live the rest of my life with pride and continue to do what I’ve been doing since I’ve come here.”
