Knox’s Best Brunch: Bayswater’s The Hatter and The Hare wins Leader’s poll

One of Knox’s most popular eateries has scored another gong, voted the area’s best brunch by Leader readers.

Knox brunch lovers are once again taking their hats off to the team at a funky Bayswater eatery, which has won rave reviews for its eclectic menu.

The Hatter and The Hare has been crowed the winner of Leader’s Best Brunch in Knox poll from a field of five finalists.

The Scoresby Rd venue has become a cult favourite for its sweet treats, high teas and vibrant decorations.

Diners can also watch the pastry chefs in action and preparing all its cakes and cookies through a large window in the back corner.

The Hatter and The Hare celebrated its fourth birthday this month and has also renovated its front courtyard and added shelter for outdoor diners.

Owner Becky Buada said she was “honoured and flattered” by the honour, which she said was a credit to its hardworking 70 staff, who she believed provided “the best service in town”.

“We’re not just about brunch really, we are about the whole experience of coming in, sitting in the cafe and taking everything in,” she said.

“And because we have seasonal menus, there is something different every time you come and visit.”

Ms Buada said its most popular items included its fritters and its Golden Gaytime cakes.

She said the venue had just released its autumn menu and one of its new items, a banana split pastry, was proving a hit.

“Our team is always working on crazy new flavours and always trying to think out of the box and reinvent things,” she said.
