Chocolate lovers are in for a treat this Easter, with some of Cadbury’s most popular flavours being made into bunnies for the first time.

A record-breaking 14 million bunnies are being made at the chocolate giant’s Ringwood factory, including new Caramilk and Mint Choc varieties and the return of the much-loved Cherry Ripe.

More than 450 staff are working around the clock to pump out the bunnies and more than 470 million eggs this Easter alongside the factory’s usual bars and boxed chocolates production.

Leader was given exclusive access to the factory to check out its production line with Easter only two weeks away.

Plant manager Dani Breidler said the three new varieties were introduced this year as they had proven to be a major hit with chocolate lovers around the country.

“We’re following our customers wants and needs … Cherry Ripe we had two or three years ago, and we’re excited to bring it back because we saw that consumers really loved the product,” she said.

“Caramilk has joined our iconic portfolio of brands and fits perfectly for Easter, and mint chocolate is a very famous flavour here in Australia.”

Production line team leader Bernadette McDougall said new products in the Easter range “keeps everyone on their toes and keeps everyone excited”.

“I’m really excited to see how these new products perform, and Mint Choc is already proving very hard to find,” she said.

Team member Esther Pezzimenti said she and her co-workers enjoyed playing their part in providing Australia with its chocolate fix throughout Easter, despite the ongoing challenges of the coronavirus pandemic.

“Knowing that we’re making these for everyone else and cheering everyone up is amazing,” she said.
