Knox crime: Stud Rd, Scoresby sprint car stolen, seen at Morack Golf Course, Vermont South

In a bizarre theft crooks who nicked a racing car have been seen towing its distinctive trailer while bushbashing in Vermont South.

The owner of a stolen sprint racing car has urged the thieves to return it as they found it, in what is one of the more bizarre crimes in Knox.

The very distinctive racer and its huge trailer were towed away from Stud Rd in Scoresby sometime overnight between Saturday and Sunday, July 24 and 25.

The car is bright red and black, with yellow lightening on its side, and a mounted sign that has a giant 94 and sponsor Tiger Tyres Bayswater on the top.

The trailer also has a huge red 94 on its side.

Sometime after the theft a grey Toyota Kluger was seen towing the race car’s trailer through the back of Morack Public Golf Course in Vermont South about 8. 30am on Sunday.

It is believed the crooks got stuck with the load after heading down Morack Rd and onto East Rd before coming to a very narrow roundabout and deadend.

Knox detective Senior Constable Geoff Grech said the car has barraged through onto a bike track and paddock at the back of the golf course and taken out a fence in the process.

Sen-Constable Grech said the racing community was tight-knit and would spot the stolen car straight away.

The car’s owner Craig Tucker wants his prized possesion home again.

“It’s no good to anyone else,” Mr Tucker said.

Since getting into sprint racing more than a decade ago, the Scoresby man has put everything into building and racing the car.

Mr Tucker said he now has team, which includes his brothers and son, and is a dedicated part of the racing community.

“For someone to do this, it’s very heartbreaking,” he said.

“Everyone I race with knows me, knows the car and my team. It (the car) will stand out.”

“I just want my rac car back how you found it.”

Police have released images of the distinctive vehicle and trailer, both of which have the racing number “94” on their side.

Anyone who has seen the sprint car or trailer, or with any information that could help police is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
